Express boats service from Kuching to Sarikei and Sibu is available daily. It is a faster mean of transport if compared to taking bus. In Sarawak, travelling by boats remain a major form of transportation because of the states' vast network of rivers.
BY EXPRESS BOATS FROM KUCHING TO SIBU
Express Boat departs daily at 8.30 am. The ticket cost around RM40 per person for one way and takes about 4 hours from Kuching to Sibu. Tickets can be bought at the wharf. In Sibu, there is extensive network of boat services along the Rejang and Igan Rivers. These fast, comfortable and reliable crafts connect Sibu with towns and villages of the Upper Rajang like Mukah, Kanowit, Julau, Song, Bintangor, Kapit, Bintangor & Sarikei.
BY SAMPANS (KNOWN AS 'TAMBANG') TO GET ACROSS THE SARAWAK RIVER

To get across a river, you can hop in one of the small boat that bring you across to another side of the villages of the town. You can also hire a boat to see the waterfront villages along the river. Just double check with the boat owner on the fare.

HOW TO GET TO THE WHARF (KUCHING)
If taking an express boat to Sarikei & Sibu, Go straight to the wharf in Pending and purchase tickets on the spot. Express departs at 8.30am and it is advisable to get to the wharf 30 mins before departure. The best way to get to the wharf is by taxi @ RM20.00 per way. |
